Creaky Floorboards: What Lies Beneath

I couldn't sleep last night. I could've sworn someone was whispering my name. The air was so heavy, and the house seemed to be settling or something. It just wouldn't shut up. There was a clanking in the walls, so I'm hoping it's not the pipes because I'd make a horrible plumber. And the shutters kept slamming in the wind, so I'll have to add them to my to-do list before they break a window. Not to mention the sound of footsteps in the attic. I hope it's not some type of disgusting creature because I don't do rodents! Not even if you paid me. Ugh.
They say old houses do that you know, settle. What settles exactly? I have no clue, but I'm sure I'll find out. And it IS a thing, okay. I promise!
Anyway, I couldn't shake the feeling that I wasn't alone, even though I was. It was probably just my overactive imagination. It gets the best of me at times. My Dad used to say it was because I'm "Gen Z." Whatever that has to do with it.
So, I decided to make the best of my insomnia with some repairs. I switched out a few of the creaking floorboards at 3am, because that's what normal people do, right? Let me tell you, the struggle is real. Now I know why repairmen wear those silly coveralls. There was probably a century of dust beneath those boards, but that wasn't all. I found something else. Something odd.
I guess I shouldn't be too shocked since the house is as old as dirt, but that dusty box beneath the floorboards had me shook. I haven't opened it yet because I don't want to do it alone, so here's the plan. I'm going to put on my big girl panties later and open it on YouTube. So come join me if you're curious to find out what secrets lie beneath my floorboards and why? Let's hope it's a million dollars so I can hire renovators! LOL. Fingers crossed.
